Feed Mill Engineering News: ISF Round-Up May 2026
Here’s the latest feed mill engineering news from ISF. May reflected much of what we’re about: investing in people, keeping our team safe, solving practical problems for customers, and being part of the wider industry conversation.
Mental Health Awareness Week
May brought Mental Health Awareness Week, and a good moment to reflect on the steps ISF has taken to look after its people. Ashlee Stabbins and Kevin Scott are now qualified Mental Health First Aiders. This means anyone on the team has a trained, familiar face to turn to if they need a conversation. Alongside the Able Futures programme, delivered in partnership with Health 2 Employment and OH-One, the team has access to free, confidential one-to-one coaching and professional support whenever they need it.
It reflects the culture we’ve worked hard to build at ISF. A place where people feel safe to speak up and know support is there.
Harness safety and working at height training
Members of the ISF team completed Harness Safety and Steps and Ladders training this month. Working at height is part of the job for our site engineers, and making sure everyone is properly trained and confident before they go out to customer sites is non-negotiable. Our customers trust us to send the right people, and that means people who are skilled, safe and fully up to date with the latest standards.
HACCP training for nine team members
Nine members of the ISF team completed HACCP Level 2 training, led by Victoria Phillips from Apheya Animal Nutrition. The course covers the principles of Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points across animal feed manufacturing, from raw materials and additives through to compound feeds and final rations.
For our project managers, designers and installation engineers, it’s about more than a qualification. Understanding the environment our customers operate in helps us deliver better solutions, from initial design right through to commissioning.
New project case study: pallet loading gate redesign
We completed another custom project this month for a North Yorkshire animal nutrition supplier. What started as a failing racking system and an unsafe manual tipping station became a full redesign. The result was a set of bespoke pallet-loading gates that improved operator safety, created more space for forklift manoeuvring, and remained operable by a single person despite handling a wider-than-average load.
Process Industry Informer SHAPA Spring Supplement article
Our article for the Process Industry Informer SHAPA Spring Supplement is now live. “We Don’t Sell Metal. We Sell Solutions” explores what we think sets ISF apart in feed mill engineering. The machines we work with are often industry standard. The way we bring everything together is not.

SHAPA Solids Handling Industry Awards 2026
On 29th April, we attended the SHAPA Solids Handling Industry Awards, where ISF was a finalist for Company of the Year and David Hukins and Simon Manock were jointly nominated for Engineer of the Year. We didn’t take home a trophy, but being shortlisted alongside some outstanding companies and individuals in our industry was a real honour. A huge congratulations to all of the winners on the night.
