The ISF team has been onsite at an animal feed mill in Carlisle to improve accuracy, efficiency and health and safety at the mill.

In September, we completed the first stage of this project, designing, manufacturing, and installing a custom holding bin to receive product directly from an external weigher and discharge into a mixer.

We were able to upgrade and automate a significant part of the process to improve production time, and the accuracy of the finished product formulation. Not only that, the improved process reduced health and safety risks associated with manual handling!

We also manufactured and installed a bespoke canopy to cover the entire top area of the open-top mixer. This canopy, along with protective curtains, significantly reduces the amount of airborne dust generated whilst the mixer is being filled by either the bucket loader or the newly installed holding bin. Implementing this solution, the customer observed a 50% improvement in airborne dust control.

We then installed a custom-made dust extraction unit from our supplier, Heaton Green with necessary ducting. This dust unit now efficiently extracts airborne particles during discharge into the mixer, noticeably improving the workspace air quality (as seen from the visible dust accumulation on the ducting in the photo).

Now that the dust unit is fully operational the airborne dust has been all but eliminated and our client has stated that the control of dust is 100% better!
