According to a 2023 HR survey, 85% of SMEs identified employee mental health as their top health and safety concern. Recognising this need, the Able Futures programme delivers a lifeline to businesses by providing employees with free, confidential mental health support. For ISF as employers, the Able Futures programme gives us a toolkit for understanding mental health and access to Able Futures awareness sessions.

To ensure we are promoting a healthier and more supportive workplace, our team recently met with Denisa Alexandrescu from Health 2 Employment and OH-One to explore an incredible resource: the Able Futures Access to Work Mental Health Programme. This initiative, fully funded by the Department for Work and Pensions offers SMEs like ours a vital way to address employee mental health challenges.

Through this initiative, employees gain access to one-on-one coaching and guidance from certified professionals affiliated with the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy. The support is tailored to help manage stress, anxiety, and other mental health challenges, empowering individuals to thrive in the workplace.

The programme’s fully funded model ensures there’s no financial burden on employees or businesses, removing barriers to accessing care. It’s a win-win for all, creating a workplace culture where team members feel valued and supported.

As businesses increasingly acknowledge the connection between mental health and productivity, resources like the Able Futures programme stand out as game-changers, especially for SMEs navigating the complexities of workplace well-being. This initiative not only supports individuals but also contributes to a thriving, cohesive team.

For SMEs seeking a proactive approach to mental health, the Able Futures programme is a reminder that help is available – and it’s just a call away.
