One of our existing customers, a producer of high-quality animal feeds across multiple mills, requested our help to improve the accuracy of small inclusions of monocal, an additive used in animal feed formulations to increase its nutritional value.

The existing process was delivering the monocal directly to the main 3 tonne multi-batch weigher. Because of this large capacity, there was no capability for accurately weighing smaller inclusions of between 5kg to 30 kg, and therefore the process was not producing product weighments of the desired accuracy.

After visiting the customers site to ensure a clear picture of the requirements, we designed and manufactured 2 micro weigh hoppers using mini loadcells, to be installed adjacent to each existing 3 tonne weigher. This will mean that not only will the weighment of these inclusions be much more accurate, but it will in turn speed up the batch time, as the product can be weighed in tandem with the main weigher.

Our installation engineers then attended site to complete phase 1 of the installation.

This involved the relocation of the customers’ existing hand-tip station to allow our engineers to complete the installation of support steelwork, weigh hoppers and associated chute-work.

The outcome:

The newly installed weighers will provide our customer with the ability to measure product with much finer accuracy – down to a single gram. This will improve the accuracy of their final product, along with improving their weighing, and therefore overall batch cycle time.

Once the new system has been electrically connected & commissioned, we will return to complete phase 2: bringing the new system online. Check out some images from this phase of the project below:
