What was the issue?
Our Northern Ireland based client needed an upgrade to the conveyors in their animal feed mill which specialises in the production of ruminant feed.
The existing set up had one slightly inclined conveyor under the two existing weighers that fed a second 30-degree inclined conveyor out of the pit. The customer was keeping stock of spare parts for both conveyors as they were an integral part of the system, which wasn’t ideal for storage space or for stock holding value. Due to being the main conveyors in the process, the machines needed upgrading to something more durable and heavy duty to ensure reliability and longevity.
ISF visited the customer and suggested replacing the two conveyors with one larger machine. As well as being more efficient and reliable, this would also significantly reduce energy consumption and running costs.
What was the solution?
We designed, manufactured and installed a new heavy-duty 4” chain and flight conveyor with inlets from both weighers, with feed gates to control the flow of product and an extra inlet for the hand additives. The new conveyor included a 30-degree swan neck section and 15mm thick flight bars fitted on every outer chain pitch to prevent product rolling back on the incline.
We were able to install these over a 2-day planned shutdown which went to plan, and product was ready to run through the conveyors from mid-afternoon on the last day of the shutdown. To ensure there were no issues, we stayed onsite for an extra day for commissioning.
What was the outcome?
After working with the customer to improve their conveyors, they now have a heavy-duty machine giving them peace of mind over operations and in the long run, will save on energy costs and maintenance requirements.
The customer contacted us following completion of the project to say:
“Another great install and modernisation project. Our next Project I am sure will be as much of a success as all the rest have been”
