Feed Mill Engineering News: ISF Round-Up March 2025
March has been one of those months where a lot has been happening all at once. From award nominations to team training, recruitment and a workshop that hasn’t stopped. Here’s the latest feed mill engineering news from the ISF team.
From concept to completion
We kicked the month off by sharing a closer look at how we approach projects from start to finish. Our in-house team surveys every site, develops bespoke designs using Autodesk Inventor and AutoCAD, and maps out and signs off every detail before manufacture begins. No two projects are the same, and that’s exactly how we like it. If you haven’t seen the video yet, it’s well worth a watch.
Busy in the workshop
While the posts have been going out, the workshop has been as busy as ever. The team have been fabricating parts and equipment across a range of live projects, keeping everything moving and making sure our customers get what they need, when they need it. It’s the part of the job that doesn’t always make the headlines, but it’s the heartbeat of everything we do.
A big month for training
Training has always been important to us at ISF, and March has been a particularly active month on that front. Several members of the team have been working through Securing Safe Loads, Abrasive Wheels and Vehicle Banksman qualifications, and the whole team completed Equality & Diversity training delivered by our HR partners at Citation.
Different skills, same commitment to doing things properly. We’ve been recognised twice by SHAPA for our approach to training and development, but the real reward is watching people grow and knowing our customers are in the best possible hands.
David’s story
This month, we also shone a spotlight on David Hukins, who joined ISF back in 2001 as an Apprentice Sheet Metal Worker and has worked his way up to senior management. David’s journey is a great example of what a long-term career at ISF can look like, and a reminder of why we invest so heavily in our people. Read more about our training and development philosophy.
We’re hiring
We’re looking for an Engineering Project Manager to join the team in York. It’s a role that sits right at the heart of what we do, taking projects from handover through design, manufacture and installation, working closely with our sales, drawing, workshop and site teams. Interviews are already underway, but there’s still time to apply. Read the job description here.
SHAPA Awards 2026 Finalists
This was the highlight of the month, and we’d be lying if we said we weren’t absolutely delighted. SHAPA has recognised us twice as a finalist in two categories at the SHAPA Solids Handling Industry Awards 2026. We’re in the running for Company of the Year, and David Hukins and Simon Manock have received a joint nomination for Engineer of the Year.
We couldn’t be prouder of David and Simon, and of the whole team whose hard work sits behind both nominations. The awards take place next month, so watch this space.
And finally
We marked the first day of spring with a view from the top of one of our client’s mills. Rolling hills, blue sky and a job well done. It felt like a pretty good summary of the month, really.
Here’s to April.
